Siemens Power Generation to upgrade steam turbines in Swedish nuclear power plant

Erlangen, Germany, June 14, 2007

The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) is to upgrade the low-pressure tur-bines at the nuclear power plants Oskarshamn Unit 2 (OKG2) in Sweden. The con-tract for OKG2 was awarded by OKG AB, a Swedish subsidiary of E.ON.

OKG operates three boiling water reactors, which meet approximately ten percent of Sweden’s power demand. Unit 2 of the Oskarshamn power plant has an installed ca-pacity of 610 megawatts (MW). Thanks to the implementation of advanced, three-dimensional blading technology the new machines will make better use of the energy contained in the steam than the old turbines. The upgrades, which are slated for com-pletion in 2009, will increase installed capacity by more than 30 MW. The Siemens PG scope of supply encompasses the low-pressure turbines, the high-pressure feed hea-ters, the flash tanks, and an SPPA-T2000 instrumentation and control system. The up-grades will ensure high plant operating reliability and low power generation costs over the long term. “The main reason why we placed the order with Siemens was because it offered the best technical solution, which fully convinced us,” said Anders Helmers-son, project manager at OKG.

The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2006 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to more than EUR10 billion and received new orders totaling EUR12.5 billion, according to U.S. GAAP. Group profit amounted to EUR782 million. On September 30, 2006, PG had a work force of approximately 36,400 worldwide.
