Siemens to build wind farm in France

Siemens Energy has received an order from the wind project developer Eolfi for a wind farm in France, to be located 30 kilometers north of Troyes. With a total capacity of 41 megawatts (MW) “Les Grandes Chapelles” wind farm will be the largest wind project Siemens has ever installed in France. The 18 Siemens wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each are scheduled to be put into service in February 2009. In addition to the supply and erection of the wind turbines, a five-year service agreement is also part of the contract.

Each of the 18 wind turbines has a rotor diameter of 93 meters and will be mounted on an 80-meter-tall tower. The wind turbines will each produce over 6 million kWh per year. The Grandes Chapelles wind farm will produce enough electricity to supply more than 30,000 households. This new project will increase the wind turbine capacity installed by Siemens Energy in France to approximately 190 MW.
