Siemens steam turbine generator for Sioux community

SST-300 steam turbine
Siemens Power Generation will deliver a steam turbine generator for a biomass-fueled combined heat and power plant (CHP) located in Shakopee in Minnesota, USA. The plant will generate heat and electricity to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and to the local malting company Rahr. The SMSC is a federally recognized Native American tribe whose members are direct descendants of the Mdewakanton Dakota people, the original inhabitants of the Lower Minnesota River.
Siemens will deliver a SST-300 steam turbine generator for the plant, which will be jointly built, owned and operated by SMSC and Rahr. The CHP plant will run on 180,000 tons of biomass to provide 16.5 megawatts (MW) base load electricity and roughly 37.000 megajoules per second (MJ/s) of thermal energy. At least 25 percent of the fuel will come from factory byproduct, the remaining fuels will be wood waste products and dedicated energy crops.
