Gas Storage
Well prepared for the market’s demands

Six-stage natural gas turbocompressor
Stored natural gas plays a vital role in ensuring the supply during seasonal shifts in consumer market demand. Therefore, utility companies with highly developed natural gas supply infrastructures need to maintain elaborate networks of underground gas storage facilities. Siemens offers turbocompressor solutions performing the key functions of loading natural gas into storage at times of supply surplus and feeding the gas back into the pipeline grid during peak demand. Our highly flexible turbocompressors can handle the variable suction and discharge pressures.
As the compressors in gas storage are normally used for storage and extraction periods, performance with low flow and high pressure ratio must be possible as well as performance with high flow and low pressure ratio.
Depending on the maximum numbers of impellers necessary, Siemens combines these features in a single-body compressor. Mature inhouse skills are available to select perfect machine configurations to match the challenging performance requirements.
Siemens contributes with:
- More than 25 years experience in gas storage applications (the biggest gas storage facility in Western Europe is fully equipped with Siemens compressors with various types of drivers)
- Adjustment of performance for injection and extraction
- R&D (Research and Development) activities
Compression solutions:
- Centrifugal compressors STC-SH and STC-SV with pressures up to 450 bar
- Single-lift packages
- Control equipment
