The Coal-to-Liquids (CTL) process is an economically robust and environmentally beneficial way of monetizing large coal reserves.

It enables coal-producing countries to achieve a certain degree of independence from importing crude oil.

A CTL plant requires a large number of different compressor trains. Air separation is the single most important part of any CTL plant. Depending on the applied process, large air compressors feed massive volumes of air to the air separation process, which provides oxygen for the gasification of pulverized coal into syngas.
